Eighty children have begun this year’s First Holy Communion programme with the first session taking place at St Joseph and the English Martyrs Church this morning (Saturday, 15 January). Most of the children are from the Catholic parish of Bishop’s Stortford while a handful come from neighbouring parishes.
The children all received their copies of the I Belong book which they will use throughout the programme, supported by resources on the special FHC portal on our website. Fr Antonio formally opened the programme with a prayer and a short introduction on what First Holy Communion is all about. Our dedicated and experienced group of catechists then took over with fun activities designed to help the children get to know one another and start developing relationships with the catechists.
The children will meet roughly twice a month and there are also special sessions for parents scheduled over the next few months. The programme will conclude with four special Masses in June and July in which the children will receive their First Holy Communion.
Please do pray for the children and their parents so that we can as one parish support them and accompany them spiritually throughout this special journey.
