St Joseph and the English Martyrs Church is suddenly full of doves and stars! A display has been lovingly created by two of our First Holy Communion (FHC) catechists this morning (22 January) featuring doves representing the 80 candidates in this year’s FHC programme. Each of the candidates has a cutout dove bearing their names and which they had to colour in as part of their first FHC session earlier this month.
The candidates also have their own individual stars. These are put in special containers at the back of the church (on top of the low bookcase containing the hymn books on the right as one enters the church). The candidates are required to collect their stars as they come in for Sunday Mass and give the stars to either Fr Peter or Fr Antonio when they come to receive a blessing during the distribution of holy Communion. Sunday Mass attendance is compulsory for FHC candidates.
