We are very blessed in our parish to have some very talented musicians and singers, who devote a great deal of their time to play each week at Mass, but also at weddings, funerals and in celebration of other sacramental events e.g. First Holy Communion and Confirmation Masses.
St Joseph and the English Martyrs Church
Sunday 9:00 am Choir
At St Joseph’s, we are supported by our 9:00 am music group and children’s choir accompanied by keyboard, guitars, violins, flutes and wonderful voices.
Sunday 11:00 am Choir
We are a choir of twelve voices, dedicated to the inspiration and support of our priests and congregation. With the lead from our resident organist, Mr Duncan Lane, we assist the singing of traditional and modern hymns and Mass settings. We have a substantial library of music. The variety of Latin and English Mass settings are important to encourage the young parishioners and maintain the calm and meditative atmosphere of the traditional plainsong of which some of the older generation are very fond. Worship is sometimes joyful and sometimes reflective. We aim to choose our motets and chants, both old and new with this in mind and link our music carefully to the liturgical year.
We welcome new choristers. Men, although outnumbered, will never be turned away. If you can sing in tune and read music a little and put up with a bit of giggling during practice, we will help with the rest. No one is able to attend every service, or practise, but we all do our best and fit in around the needs of our families. We enjoy our role in the parish and feel honoured to sing on Sundays and for funerals and weddings if needed.
We are a happy and caring team. The year 2020 has been for all a very disturbing year as yo u know. We were unable to sing until August due to the church repairs and COVID-19 restrictions. We are now able to sing socially distanced and in the back half of the church with no congregation present. We are hoping that by Easter we will be able, once again, to sing with our congregation and fill our lovely church with praise and thanksgiving.
We love each other.
We love to sing.
Mostly we love our blessed Lord.
Lord, grant that we may sing our praise
until the ending of our days
Most Holy Redeemer Church
At Most Holy Redeemer, we also have an extremely talented and dedicated group of musicians and fabulous choir. Below is an example of’ Regina Coeli’ which was performed during isolation in the first COVID-19 lockdown and individually pieced together.
