With great excitement and anticipation, this year’s elect rehearsed on Tuesday, 13 April for their Big Day. Led by Fr Antonio and also attended by the catechists and sponsors, the rehearsal took place at St Joseph and the English Martyrs Church.
The elect are the fourteen individuals from this year’s RCIA and RCIC programmes (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adult and Children respectively). They have been journeying with our catechetical team since October, learning about the faith as they prepare to be more fully a part of the life of the Church. Four of the elect are yet to be baptised; some are already baptised Catholics but seek to receive Holy Communion for the first time and/or Confirmation; while others are from other Christian denominations desiring to have full communion with the Catholic Church.
As with all Christians, the elect’s spiritual journey will go on for the rest of their lives but it will reach a significant milestone at the Easter Vigil on 16 April when Bishop Paul McAleenan will administer the sacraments of initiation on them as required. The elect will be supported by their sponsors and catechists and, of course, the whole parish who have prayed for the elect since the beginning of their journeys.
