On 29 March, this year’s elect rehearsed for their big event at the Easter Vigil when they will receive the sacraments of initiation. The rehearsal was led by Fr Antonio and it was also attended by the elect’s sponsors and catechists.
The elect are the eight individuals from this year’s RCIA programme (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adult). They have been journeying with our catechetical team since September, learning about the faith as they prepare to be more fully a part of the life of the Church.
Three of the elect will be baptised at the Vigil; two are already baptised Christians but seek to be fully received into the Catholic Church; while three are already Catholics who will receive the sacrament of Confirmation along with the other five. Two children of one of the elect will also be baptised on the night.
As with all Christians, the elect’s spiritual journey will go on for the rest of their lives but it will reach a significant milestone at the Easter Vigil on 8 April when Fr Antonio will administer the sacraments of initiation on them as required (Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist). The elect will be supported by their sponsors and catechists and, of course, the whole parish community who have prayed for the elect since the beginning of their journeys.
