Welcome! Majellans has been running in the parish for many years, welcoming all parents and their little ones, from newborn to about four years old.

St Gerard Majella

 

The name of our group is in honour of St Gerard Majella, who is the patron saint of expectant mothers.

Throughout his years of life, several reported miracles are attributed to St Gerard Majella. Along with his miracles effected through prayers for woman in labour, Majella’s last recorded miracle is one that many credit toward his becoming the patron of expectant mothers. Shortly before his death, Majella encountered a young girl. He had dropped his handkerchief and she set out to return it, only to be told to keep it. Majella told her she “may need it someday.” Years after Majella’s passing, the young girl became married and with child. She unexpectedly went into labour and was on the verge of losing her baby. She called for Majella’s handkerchief to be applied to her. Almost immediately, her pain ceased and she proceeded to give birth to a healthy child, something very rare during that time.

His prayers are regularly sought for children, especially unborn children, for women in childbirth and mothers and motherhood in general.

 

When and Where?

We meet every Monday in the Windhill Churches Centre, except during the school holidays, from 9.30am – 11.20am.

There’s no waiting lists – you are welcome to come whenever you like and just ask for £2.50 on the door.

 

The Format

The format, for those who are new, is very simple:

• Playtime – with a variety of toys – to begin with, followed by an art and craft activity, which will be slightly different each week.
• Tea and coffee for parents is available at any time from the hatch.
• Half way through we stop for a snack time for the children. This is usually some fruit and other nibbles, as well as the usual yummy biscuits! (If you would like to bring and share something special for a birthday, then just let us know!)
• We have a tidy up time just before 11am, which gives us enough time for some singing with on the mat (accompanied by loads of noisy instruments!) and a few action songs, before finishing with our traditional Majellans prayer, “Heart of Jesus”.
