Catechists from our First Holy Communion programme attended a two-day training in preparing children with special needs for the sacraments on 9 and 10 March 2022 in the parish hall. Titled Symbols of Faith Workshop, the training was delivered by Gail Williams (pictured above), centre manager of Caritas St Joseph’s which is a Hendon-based organisation working to support people with intellectual disabilities, their families and friends.
The two evenings offered our catechists insights and ideas on the faith formation of children with special needs using symbolic catechesis. The first evening focused on the theory while the second evening was practical-based. During both sessions, the participants were able to share experiences of good practice and explore different resources to support children with special needs in their catechesis.
